The Woodchoppers lead singer Dickie McManus
              Dickie McManus was one of those who chose to seek his fortune abroad.
  Dickie set sail for Boston on 1 April 1965  Dickie  put together his own outfit The Emeralds showband
   which  was well received by the large Irish-American contingents scattered throughout the country.
   Before long The Emeralds Showband were performing  in major cities such as
Chicago, New York,Boston and San Francisco.
 The success of The Emeralds was to last eight years,
but as time went by some of the members wanted to go their own ways.
        Dickie McManus ex vocalist of the Woodchoppers , Showband. Derry
died in Boston Feb 2003
