In 1973 Dermot Ryan(leader and sax player
of Stage 2
offered me a gig with Stage 2 playing trumpet
and singing.
Stage 2 had just released Beautiful Sunday
and were riding high on the charts,
it was a great rush for me.
The ballrooms were jam packed and the band
just grooved, it was awesome.
Brendan O'Brien,
as you proably know was electicuted on stage in 1974
at The Sardust in Cork city, which knocked
him out of action for some time
I realeased a single called "You've Grown
up"(penned by our old friend
Mr. Lucy of the T.V. Club fame
and arranged by Noel Keelahan), it had
moderate success so we went back
to the studio to cut the follow up" Sailor
Boy"
I took off to Canada in 1976, Joe Mac
was a little peaved at me
for leaving but we are still good friends,
He understood my situation. I am still
singing full time in Canada and the U.S.,
I play Showrooms in the Casinos and I love
it.
I use the stage name Alan James now.
