Maurice Mulcahy

The Maurice Mulcahy Band began in 1952, when four brothers Maurice (trumpet and band leader)
David (tenor sax and coach driver) Mike (baritone sax) and Joe (toner sax and clarinet)
from Mitchelstown, Co Cork
 Prior to the showbands. most "bands" in Ireland in the early 50's
were similar to the "big bands" of the 1940's
They had 10 to 14 musicians and all sat on stage for the night and played their instruments
and read the music from the arrangment sheets in front of them on music stands.
They were dressed in black suits and bow ties and gleaming white shirts, very elegant!

They adapted to the new scene and continued to have many years of success
and continued well into the Showband years
They also made a few successful albums

 Maurice Mulcahy died on August 22nd 1963

Dave Mulcahy died in December 1975,

Mike Mulcahy died  August 14th  2003.
