Gene's Home Page
Gene Chetty came to Ireland in 1962 from  South Africa
He quickly found his way to The Crystal Ballroom in Dublin.
and got to hear his first Showband  The Miami and he was hooked!
He would go to dances rarely dance but just listen to the bands.
He got to know Dickie Rock and the Miami lads, and told them of his interest in joining a showband.
Murty Quinn suggested that he should scan the showband adverts in the Irish Independent,
which often featured bands looking for singers.
Finally; in early 1964 one of his friends
saw an advertisement for a band based in Enniskillen, looking for a lead singer.
Four members of the new band had broken away from The Skyrockets
Paddy McDermott )Saxophone)Dermot Doherty (Trombone) Peter Watson (Drums)
and Henry McCullough (Lead Guitar)
The other members were Tony Gallagher(Rythm Guitar)and

Barry Scully R.I.P (Bass)
I am very sad to inform you of Barry's death.
He died of a heart attack on Monday 10/12/07.
He was the musical "brains" behind Gene and the Gents.
He spent the last 17 years in Dickie Rock's backing band
as well as having his own Band Be Bop gold.
We communicated regularly and arranged to meet at the Helix theatre in
January during the Showband tour.
I will miss him

Relaxing after the show                My future daughter in law, before the show

We performed at the Riverside theatre in Coleraine 19/05/06 and the
Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen on the 20/05/06.
Both concerts were to a packed house.
Gene said: "I was so pleased that so many people turned up especially as
I had not performed in Ireland for 35 years!
Enniskillen was like a "fantastic homecoming"(I lived there for 6 years)
I am hoping to return next year for about 10 dates to coincide with the
release of a 4 track cd,tv appearances and radio interviews.

Regards     Gene
