Ballyfarnon is situated right on the County Sligo border
and about 5 miles north of the Lough Key Forest Park. From the village
one can visit the now idle coal mines of Arigna, and see the three sweat-houses
in the area. Ballyfarnon's history as a village can be traced back to the
18th century and its growth developed around the old iron foundry and mills.
At one stage there were two mills in the village.
Ballyfarnon is a thriving little village
with steel works, remould plant, and several small businesses
. While Ballyfarnon village grows the adjoining
towlands are declining in population
