The Cheeky Rascals from Dromore, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
Originally known as both the Denver
Showband and then Section One
we finally became known as The Rascals but due to there being an
American Rascals
we had to change the name slightly so our records could be released
in UK and Europe.
The photograph on your site is of Me Declan Colgan (from Omagh),
in the bottom left corner,
Ted Ponsonby (all instruments
known to man)back left,
Pat Walsh (Bass/Vocals) front and centre
Billy Walsh (Guitar/lead vocals) back right and
Andy Davidson (Drums/percussion)front right.
Came across your site very recently and was amazed to find you actually
have a photograph of ME on it.
I never knew any still existed apart from the mangled old copy I
have myself.
Anyway My name is Declan Colgan,I was nicknamed Duke back in the
good old days.
I played Keyboards/Vocals with a couple of bands in the 70's. Firstly
with Shelley and the Big
Valley, after my friend from Omagh, Tony Fox left.
I was introduced to the Band by another good friend of mine,Dan
O'Hara from Phillies band.
The third date I played with them was in concert at the National
Stadium Dublin in support to
Hank Locklin, boy was that terrifying. Anyway when Tony Loughman
decided he wanted to try putting
Anne and Jan (Shelley) Lynch into a band together (The Marines)
the Big Valley broke up
and I was Very lucky to have been given a fantastic break by auditioning
for
The Rascals from Letterkenny.
