The Drumbeats, an eight piece showband from Lifford Donegal
Known throughout Britain as The Playboys,
this band always appeared as The Drumbeats in Scotland
due to the bad name earned by another group of Playboys
who had
toured the Highlands a few years before.
The Drumbeats were good, the musical equals of Maurice Lynch,
and in Judy Murphy they possessed glamour and singing talent in
abundance.
Judy's version of First Cut is The Deepest, the P.P. Arnold soul
classic,
is still remembered for its spine-freezing emotional intensity.
